We are working with Terry McNabb from AquaTechnex for Treatment options. This is the same company that has been conducting Noxious Weed Control on Big Lake for years. Treatment options are either a 1 time "reset" option (estimated at $3M to $5M) or a lower cost, staged multi-year "striping" option using either Lanthanum or Aluminum Sulfate. We believe the 'reset' option is not a viable option at this time due to the cost involved. The Lanthanum is slightly more expensive than the Aluminum Sulfate, however based on how it works, and the fact that it's benefits last indefinitely, the Lanthanum will be more effective for Big Lake and is the path we are focused on.
Absent doing the large-scale reset treatment, we will see improvement in the lake from this Lanthanum "striping" investment, however we still may get algae later in the summer. Every lake behaves differently and any phosphorus mitigation will be beneficial, but it can take two or more years to really remove this threat. We expect to treat for 3 years and then evaluate .
The Lanthanum treatment option has a minimum recommended dosage, or if funds permit, we can add additional Lanthanum for better treatment effectiveness.
Any additional funds raised will go towards future years treatments.
